Five Eastern Michigan University (EMU) departments participated in the College and Career Fair held at Romulus High School (RHS) on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The entire student body, 425 students, learned about many successful career pathways including chemistry, engineering, fermentation science, geology, and meteorology.
EMU was represented by Jaden Zayas, Senior Admissions Advisor, EMU Office of Admissions; Dr. Christine Clark, Department Head, EMU Department of Geography and Geology; Sydney Pope, Marketing Specialist, EMU GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Harriet Lindsay, Department Head, EMU Department of Chemistry, and Taylor Heckaman, Lecturer, Microbiology and Fermentation Science. Dr. Sibrina Collins, Director and Zachary Krauss, Assistant Director, represented the EMU STEM Ed Institute.
The RHS students learned about the EMU admissions process, several degree programs, and received some EMU swag and wonderful treats while participating in the fair. The students were able to enjoy fun hands-on STEM activities including analyzing geology samples under a powerful microscope and making a storm cloud with a portable mist maker.
Kharena Coleman, Partnerships Coordinator for Romulus Community Schools, shared why these kinds of experiences are so important for high school students. “We have a direct effort to expose students to careers. Given that exposure throughout the school year provides unique opportunities for our students to make the right choices for themselves,” she said.
The EMU STEM Ed Institute continues to strengthen the partnership with Romulus Community Schools with support from the General Motors Community Impact Grant Program. “We are thrilled to contribute and participate in student-centered career programming with Romulus Community Schools. This allows EMU to continue to enhance and grow our relationship with our fellow Eagles,” said Collins.
